Jhargram Belpahari Gopiballavpur

 

Beliaberah Raj Palace: Nimaichand Mahapatra built this place. It is few kilometers away from Jhargram. The area is called Praharaj. On the banks of the river Dulung, in the year 1318, the then king Krishna Chandra built a new palace.

 

Bhasraghat: Bhasraghat is near Nayagram. During the reign of the then Nawab the torture remains vide the cultivation of ‘Nil’. The remains of the torture can still be seen where a deserted house still remains. The whole day will be a fantancy when one visits the banks of the river Subarnarekha. The aboriginals can be heard from a distance when they play and sing.

 

Sahasraling Shivmandir and Chandraketugarh: This temple is situated at a distance of 8-10 Kms from Nayagram Balikoril. The king Chandra Ketu constructed this temple which faces the North. From the temple, at a distance of 1 Km lie the remains of the palace of Chandra Ketu.

 

Chorchita Yogashram and Choreshwar Shiv Mandir: It is situated in the west of Rantua Bus stop, about 10 Kms from Rantua. It is about 45 Kms from Jhargram. If you walk along the banks of the river Subarnarekha you shall reach this place. There is a huge tree beside this temple. The maker of this Ashram Swami Gobardhan celebrates a festival during the rainy season. Apart from this during Amavashya, Kalipuja is celebrated. A folklore as it is said that Lord Shiva stole milk form the cows of locals. As the shepherds found no milk they followed the cows into the jungle and guess what they found. They saw dripping milk into a Shiva Linga. Hence goes the story, and so it is called Chorchita.

 

Shripat Gopiballavpur: From Jhargram it is about 41 Kms. It is a pilgrimage of the Vaishnabas. It is said that once upon a time a few diciples brought the temple here. At present Deb Goswami Clan‘s first decendent prays in this temple. At one time Sri Shymananda Mahaprabhu came here and named it Gopiballav Rai. From that time onwards this place came to be known as Gopiballavpur. Previously it was called Kashipore.

 

Hatibari: Besides the river Subarnarekha is Hatibari. It is surrounded by different types of trees. Few tents are strewn in this place for tourists. It is a beautiful place. From here about 3 Kms far is Jhilibandh. Sunrise and sunset can be seen form this place.

 

Jahanpur Pirthan: In order to Preach his religious opinion, Subi Darbesh Syed Kashim reached this forestland. Then this part was under the state of Orissa. The Pathans fought with the old King of this forestland in order to win over this battle. The daughters of the old King came to the Subi Darbesh. The Pathan Army Chief imprisoned the Darbesh. On the bank of the river Subarnarekha stands Beliabera. Here is the village of Jahanpur, the Darbesh died in captivity. Afterwards the Pathans Army-in-Chief created a Mosque to co-memorate the Darbesh. On the way to Ragra from Jhargram near Mahapal's other side this Jahanpur Pirthan is situated. It is a sacred place of union of the Hindus & Muslims. Here we find many Archeological Momento of India. The natural beauty of the banks of the river Subarnarekha will charm everybody.

 

Jhilibandh: In the opposite of Hatibari lies a Forest Bunglow with a zigzag path, this place is called Jhilibandh. The beauty of rain will welcome you to stay at this place. Migrating birds can be seen throughout the day.

 

Kuthighat: During the British Raj there was a riverbank named Kuthighat, which at present is Rantua. From this Jeti travelers used boats to cross the river. At present there is temple of Godess Kali. The festival is celebrated with a lot of abuevce. During 1961-62 saints lived here. Few of the saints still live here, there is a link between these saints and those who live in Rameshwar.

 

Nayagram: It is about 90 Kms from Jhargram. A place called Kaluashar streched on red soil road is about 5 Kms from Nayagram. A festival in the winter season is held before the Paush Shankranti. The Nawab of Murshidabad had kept Nayagram under his control. The desolate Kacharibari is a historic momento. A fable is said that a black Ox come out of the jungle and disappeared again. The aborigins spent most of their time in the jungle. It is believed a herd of black Ox used to protect them from wild animals. These Oxes fought with wild tigers. It is a taboo for these people. These aborigins of Nayagram believe in the existence of this black Ox.

 

Rameshwar: From Jhargram to Gopiballavpur towards Nayagram and at the banks of Shubarnarekha, the temple of Rameshwar is situated. This temple attracts one for its sublime idol of Lord Shiva, which is more like Deul of Orissa. It is said that Sita asked Ram to build this temple with the help of Lord Vishwakarma. The architecture is worth seeing. A little far from Rameshwar is Tapavan. The ashram of saint Balmiki. Beside the tomb stone of Balmiki burns a fireplace. Many say that this is the place where Sita gave birth to her children.

 

Shyamtarangini: The Kendugari and Shyamtarangini Dam welcomes you. The distance of this place is about 4 kms from Jhilibandh via the Panchyat office of Gopiballavpur.

 

Tapoban: Chandabila is few Kilometres from Gopiballavpur towards Nayagram. The Temple of Rameshwar and sainty parch is about 8Kms from Chandabila. The beauty of the dark green forest engulfs ones mind. People say that this sainty parch was the reincarnation of RatnaKar to Saint Balmiki. There is an Ashram in this place. It is said that the labour room of Sita is still burning beside the Ashram of the Saint. Sita gave birth to twins in this place. The footstep of Sita Devi is still found. Lord Hanuman gave protection to Sita Devi in this place. Wild animals stay in this dense forest. People say that Sita is still teaching archery to her sons Lava and Kusha.
