History of Jhargram Raj Palace:

Legend has it around 1577A.D a Rajput prince from Rajasthan Sarveshwar Singh who was one the officers in Man Sigh's army who came to capture Bengal on behalf of the Mughal emperor Akbar the great. He belonged to the Kshtriya Chandra Vansha Chauhan clan of Rajputs . He invaded the deep forest region known as Junglekhanda and defeated the tribal rulers the Mals and adopted the surname Malladeb and set up his kingdom with it's capital nameing it Jhargram.Around 1750A.D. the East India company came to conquer Jhargram from Midnapore but the Raja tried to defend his kingdom and finally surrendered to the British as it was agreed that he could rule Jhargram under British regime by a monthly taxation amount.
